Fr. Jeffrey Montz will present our Lenten Mission on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (February 19-21) at 6:00 pm each night in the church.
Fr. Jonathan will hear confessions before each evening session from 5:30-6:00. Fr. Jeffrey will be available for confession after the talks on Monday and Tuesday.
Fr. Jeffrey's description:
Pope Francis once said, “The goal of the prayer is of secondary importance; what matters above all is the relationship with the Father. This is what makes the prayer transform the desire and shape it according to the will of God, whatever it may be, because the person who prays first of all aspires to union with God, who is Merciful Love.” (General Audience 5/25/16)
Perhaps more than any other topic in the spiritual life, prayer can be a source of confusion and misunderstanding. This is unfortunate since prayer is so vital to the spiritual life. As Pope Francis rightly points out its goal is nothing less than union with God.
In this parish mission which will span three nights I hope to answer, among other things, the following questions: What is prayer?, Is prayer necessary for the Christian or optional?, How does one begin to pray?, Is there something wrong with me if I feel nothing in prayer?, What can I do with my wandering mind when I pray?, For how long do I need to pray?
Each night I will present on these topics. Following the presentations I will make myself available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. On the final night of the mission there will be an opportunity to ask questions as well. It is my deepest hope that through what will be shared at least some will be moved to a deeper relationship with God.
